Laurel sees action in Kazakhstan

WORLD Boxing Organization (WBO) No. 12 ranked super bantamweight Alie Laurel treads on enemy shores as he takes on Yevgeniy Pavlov in a six-round fight on Dec. 16, 2020 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

Laurel is currently working his way up the WBO super bantamweight ladder and a future shot at a world title. He won five of his last six contests since suffering a unanimous decision defeat to Ernesto Saulong in 2015.

After losing his first two contests with Saulong, he finally got vengeance with a technical decision win in their second rematch in 2019. He also won the WBO Oriental super bantamweight belt in the process, thus his lofty spot in the rankings.

The 28-year-old Laurel got noticed in 2014 after scoring a fifth round technical knockout upset of then unbeaten Tiger Tor Buamas in Thailand.

Laurel has also faced the likes of fellow world-rated Pinoy Joe Noynay and former world title challenger Aston Palicte.

Pavlov is a young up-and-coming prospect from Kazakhstan. The 21-year-old has power in his fists and beat Tanzanian prospect Goodluck Mrema via a second round stoppage.

Laurel is 18-4-1 with 11 knockouts, while Pavlov is 2-0 with two knockouts. / EKA
