Eliza Consul's Bodies In Motion: The grace and power of the human figure

MASTER photographer Eliza Consul’s “Bodies in Motion” photo exhibit captures the grace and power of the human figure, the athlete in particular. It captures the fluidity or flow and the power in the movement of the athletes.

The 2019 Southeast Asian Games held in the Philippines from November 30 to December 11 marked an unequivocal salute to Filipino athletes for emerging as the overall champion for the first time in 14 years, breaking its own medal record in 2005. It was on this premise that a tribute was established through a photo exhibit of Cordilleran athletes, who contributed much to the nation’s roaring success with 17 golds, 11 silvers and seven bronze medals.

Slow and high-speed photography plus multiple exposures were applied to make every capture unique. The slow shutter speed creates an intentional blur, getting the contrast between the subject in motion and other components that are absolutely still in the same shot.

More than the medals and recognition earned by these amazing athletes, the exhibit tells the tales behind their victory, which will undoubtedly inspire the spectator in all genres.

It conveys a strong message of heritage pride, perseverance, hard work and faith rolled into one to transform dreams into one solid reality.

Hence, a well-deserved tribute to honor not just the victory earned for every event, competition or fight fought BUT for the victory earned in life.

Enjoy the images and contemplate the messages these athletes are teaching us on the second floor of Porta Vaga Mall, Session Road, Baguio City from December 1, 2020 to January 31, 2021.
