21,000 local, overseas jobs up for grabs in online job fair

SOME 21,000 overseas and local jobs are set to be offered to jobseekers on December 10 and 11 as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will hold a two-day online jobs fair.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) will facilitate the job offers from 600 domestic companies and 16 licensed recruitment agencies.

"As the economy rebounds and some countries gradually opening their economies, we invited jobseekers to take advantage of the online job fair, which offers a wide range of local and overseas vacancies," said Bello.

He said they opted to make the job fair an online activity in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

"The labor department is adopting a virtual job fair system in compliance with government restrictions on mass gatherings," said Bello.

Among the local jobs to be offered are vacancies for engineers, CAD operators, telecommunications rigging technicians, maintenance technicians, carpenters, foreman, laborers, and building cleaning workers.

Also up for grabs are job vacancies for supervisor, physical fitness coach, cake decorator, cook, food server, restaurant worker, waiter, waitress, counter service staff, and service staff.

For overseas jobs, Bello said most vacancies are for factory workers, nurses, nursing aides, and care workers.

The countries of destination, meanwhile, include Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, New Zealand, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Myanmar, Jordan, Ivory Coast, Lebanon, Ghana, Micronesia, Turks and Caicos, Palau.

Bello advised jobseekers to ready the soft copies of their resume or curriculum vitae and other application requirements, such as certificate of employment for those formerly employed, diploma, and transcript of records.

To access the online job fair, the labor chief said applicants may visit the POEA website at www.poea.gov.ph, and log in their credentials via e-registration and click the name of the ongoing job fair.

The system will then show the recommended jobs that match the applicant’s preference.

If interested, applicants should click the submit button and the job selected will automatically be added on their “My Application” option. To see their application details, applicants should click the view button.

To search for other available jobs, applicants may type the position name, then click the search button.

Bello said jobseekers may only submit applications during the two-day fair, but they can verify the status of their applications even beyond December 11. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
