Firecracker retailers told to comply with health protocols

WHILE the current guidelines on the selling of fireworks and firecrackers are the same as last year's, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) also included the practice of minimum public health standards, DILG City Director Jane Docallos said Friday, December 5, 2020.

"Sa mga namaligya, they are required to establish nga butangan nila'g harang, establish spacing. Kailangan ang pagbaligya dili na parehas sauna nga moduol na. Karon, dapat physical distancing is a requirement," Docallos said.

She added that while there is no written guideline at the moment, national guidelines and the Covid-19 guidelines of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) should be followed.

"If ever man mogawas tong guidelines from Manila, that will be incorporated. But naa to or wala, we still include that (health protocols) in Cagayan de Oro," Docallos said.

The DILG city director said at present, no one has applied for a permit yet to conduct a fireworks display, however, they do require barangays to put up community fireworks displays in celebration of Christmas.

For those who wanted to conduct a fireworks display, Docallos said they have to seek clearance from the Bureau of Fire and the Philippine National Police and get a permit from the city government.

"This is a tradition no matter how we campaign for Iwas Paputok. We have to understand the fact that dili diretso overnight mawala ni," Docallos said.

"Mao na nga gi-require gyud namo ang barangays to designate an area in the event that there will be people nga gusto gyud magpa-show didto; not in the individual homes," she added.
