GAMES and Amusement Board (GAB) Chairman Abraham Kahlil "Baham" Mitra thanked everyone who supported the just-concluded 2nd Professional Sports Summit through Zoom Teleconferencing and Facebook live held over the weekend.

“The Professional Sports Summit exceeded our expectations,” Mitra said adding that, “during the start of the year when the pandemic started, the future of sports was very dark and with no hope in sight.”

“Who would expect that at the end of the year, and even in the midst of the pandemic, the GAB family would grow into having to welcome and embrace more members of its Pro-Sports family,” the former Palawan governor lamented.

Mitra also stressed that this year has been more fruitful for the agency, where they have been able to achieve so much with the help of its stakeholders, media friends and government agencies that helped push for the resumption of the sport and continue to provide a livelihood to the Pro-Sports industry. He also lauded Filipino fans, who with or without the pandemic, have continuously provided love and support to the industry.

The one-day virtual event was divided into two parts, namely: the morning session showcasing the different topics related to boxing rules, mental health and laws related to professional sports, among others. In the afternoon session, there was a live session, wherein different sports icons and national leaders attended.

This year’s event was dubbed “Leadership in Crisis” and aimed to collect ideas and best practices from high-profile professional sports leagues, such as the Philippine Basketball Association, Chooks-to-Go 3×3 Pilipinas, National Basketball League, Premier Volleyball League, Professional Chess Association of the Philippines and Philippine Football League, among others.
