VALENZUELA City Mayor Rex Gatchalian personally served late Monday afternoon, December 7, 2020, the suspension order against NLEX (North Luzon Expressway) Corporation.

This means that NLEX could not collect toll at its toll gates in Valenzuela City and its barriers would have to be lifted.

“Officially wala nang business permit ang NLEX... binuksan na ang mga barriers and wala na ang mga sensors, nakapatay na. We will post somebody here to monitor the activity the whole night,” Gatchalian said.

(Officially, NLEX does not have a business permit. The barriers have been lifted and sensors switched off.)

“May na-violate na business permit provision whether or not you pay taxes or not. Pantay-pantay tayo sa batas pag may vinaolate ka na patakaran, you will be revoked. It may not be cure to all pero we’ve addressed one of the major issues to the traffic situation here in Valenzuela,” he added.

(A provision in its business permit was violated. Everyone is equal under the law. A violation means revocation of the permit.)

Gatchalian said the suspension will last until the company is able to address the traffic jams caused by the implementation of the RFID system.

Gatchalian earlier gave NLEX until 5:01 p.m. Monday to present an action plan on how to implement the RFID system without causing traffic congestion.

The City also demanded that NLEX apologize. (SunStar Philippines)
