EVRMC mourns death of chief medical technologist in fatal road crash

THE Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) in Tacloban City mourned the death of its chief medical technologist, who was killed during a fatal road crash in Kananga, Leyte Saturday, December 12, 2020.

Virgilio "Bing" Hubilla Jr., 57, was on his way to the city onboard a Toyota Vios when he met a road accident along Barangay Montebello, Kananga around 3 p.m. Saturday.

“We are all in deep sorrow due to his sudden demise. Sir Bing truly loved his experience in the Covid lab, as he did the validation, extraction and his favorite -- doing the template adding for PCR (polymerase chain reaction test),” read a statement from EVRMC-Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center.

“We certainly cherish the moments that we shared with Sir Bing... We will take care of the lab that you have always loved. Rest in peace,” it added.

Police said Hubilla’s driver, identified as Bienenido Menoc Jr., overtook a truck and, upon seeing an incoming Mitsubishi Expander, the latter tried to evade and rammed into a parked Isuzu Elf dump truck instead.

The second vehicle, driven by a 61-year-old Catholic priest Gregorio Buñales, also accidentally hit the dump truck, according to the police.

The three victims were brought to the Kananga Municipal Hospital for immediate medical attention.

However, Hubilla was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, Dr. Jay Martin Tamayo.

Buñales was then referred to a hospital in Ormoc City, the report said.

The vehicles are now in the custody of the authorities. (SunStar Philippines)
