71 more cops assigned to Bacolod

A TOTAL of 71 policemen from Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas were deployed to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) in Bacolod City Tuesday, December 15.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, spokesperson of BCPO, said the 71 policemen arrived in BCPO Tuesday and will be subjected to a swab test before they will be deployed to various police stations.

"For now, they are staying at the BCPO Administration office while they are waiting for the swab test," he said.

After the swab test, he said they will wait for the directive of the BCO director for the final assignment of the augmentation personnel.

Pico noted that BCPO goes on full alert this Christmas season, especially during the celebration of dawn masses in Catholic churches starting December 16.

Pico said several policemen will be deployed to various churches and all police station chiefs were directed to put up a police assistance desk within their areas of jurisdiction.

"Our personnel were reminded to penalize the health protocol violators during the dawn masses. We should strictly impose City Ordinance 944 or the Face Mask, Shield and Social Distancing Ordinance of Bacolod City," he said.

Any person who fails to follow the ordinance will be penalized with a fine of P200 or eight hours of community service for every violation.

The community services will be supervised by the City Health Office in coordination with the barangay where the said violators reside. If he is not a resident of Bacolod City, he will be fined P300.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran earlier said the barangay officials along with policemen and their tanods should arrest violators of the ordinance within their areas of jurisdiction.

"All the agencies including the barangays should impose this ordinance to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19)," he said, adding that the proper wearing of face masks and face shields in public places are now mandatory and the violators should be penalized.

He added it has been observed that some residents in Bacolod City were seen walking in public places not wearing face masks and face shields.
