PRO-Western Visayas chief orders probe into drug-positive Nocppo cop

POLICE Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas Director General Rolando Miranda has ordered for an investigation on the police corporal who tested positive for illegal drugs use.

Miranda also ordered to disarm the said police corporal who is assigned at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo).

Miranda said he has released an order to disarm the cop while an investigation is carried out and he has informed the Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) for the filing of appropriate charges against the cop.

"We will let the [PNP-IAS] handle the case para walang bias," Miranda said.

The PRO-Western Visayas director said they will conduct more drug tests among the police officers in the region.

The regional police have already received 8,000 drug test kits, which would be used for "targeted drug testing."

"Appropriate administrative and criminal charges will be filed against police officers who will test positive for illegal drug use," he added.

Earlier on Monday, Crime Laboratory-Region VI chief Colonel Enrique Ancheta said one of five police officers from Nocppo tested positive for illegal drugs when they conducted a random drug test earlier this month.

No further information was provided on what kind of illegal drugs was detected in the policeman's body.

Miranda earlier ordered the mandatory drug testing of over 13,000 cops across Western Visayas before the year ends.
