DAVAO City topped anew the list of areas with the highest number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in a day, with 126 infections recorded Wednesday, December 16.

The 126 new cases from Davao City are among the 1,156 infections reported by the Department of Health (DOH) Wednesday.

Other areas with the highest number of Covid-19 cases are Quezon City with 66, Rizal (64), Bulacan (56), and City of Manila (38).

The DOH said the 1,156 new infections recorded Wednesday brought the total caseload to 452,988.

Aside from the new confirmed cases, the DOH said 425 patients have recovered from Covid-19. This means that the country's total number of recoveries is now at 419,282 or 92.6 percent of confirmed cases.

The death toll also climbed to 8,833 with 21 mortalities recorded in a day, said the health department.

The active cases stood at 24,873.

The DOH said majority of the Covid-19 cases in the Philippines still have mild symptoms, or at 84.7 percent.

Asymptomatic patients stood at 6.7 percent, critical cases at 5.6 percent, severe cases at 2.8 percent, and moderate at 0.30 percent.

The DOH called on the public anew to help prevent the spread of the virus especially this holiday season.

It said the public must limit celebrations to immediate family members and refrain from traveling to other areas.

"Kung lalabas man, bantayan ang oras at huwag pahabain," it added.

Globally, Covid-19 has affected 71,581,532 people, of which 1,618,374 have died. The confirmed cases have been reported from at least 220 areas in the world, according to the World Health Organization. (Laureen MondoƱedo-Ynot)
