CAGAYAN de Oro has retained its ranking this year as the seventh among the most competitive highly-urbanized cities in the Philippines, during the 8th Regional Competitiveness Summit.

The summit, which include the awarding ceremony, was streamed live at the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index Facebook page on Wednesday, December 16.

Cagayan de Oro City is one of the only two cities outside the National Capital Region (NCR) that made it to the top 10.

In the Most Competitive Highly-Urbanized Cities category, the city ranked fifth in infrastructure, number 6 in resiliency, number 9 in government efficiency, and number 12 in economic dynamism.

Cagayan de Oro had consistently been among the top 10 competitive highly-urbanized cities in the country for eight years.

"In spite of the many limiting conditions that we have had to bear, we managed to remain well afloat and emerge among the Top Ten Highly Urbanized Cities in the country," Mayor Oscar Moreno said.

Moreno also expressed his gratitude to all the men and women of the City Government and all of the city's partners, including the private sector, the academe, business community, interfaith organizations, youth sector and aid organizations.

"May this new prestigious award continue to inspire us all in our quest for excellence," Moreno added.

The Cities and Municipalities Index is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Committees with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development.

The selection of the overall ranking is based on the four pillars: Resiliency, Infrastructure, Government Efficiency, and Economic Dynamism.
