THE Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdowns that followed, gave media streaming services a boost. For almost the entire year, people spent most of their time at home, and turned to movie-series marathons to entertain themselves.

While K Dramas had their fair share of attention, Filipinos still couldn’t resist watching, relating and sharing about Filipino titles featured on the leading streaming service.

Here are some of the top Filipino stories most watched on Netflix this 2020.

“The Hows of Us”

Younger Filipinos enjoyed the treat of seeing Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla in this story of lovers rediscovering themselves and reigniting their feelings for one another. The love team, more popularly known as #KathNiel, made fans fall in love all over again.

“Exes Baggage”

Another drama that had Filipinos glued to their smartphones was “Exes Baggage.” However, one reason for this title’s popularity was the pairing of two real-life, ex-lovers-now-friends Carlo Aquino and Angelica Panganiban. Viewers were definitely left wondering about “what-could’ve-beens.”

“Love the Way U Lie”

Filipinos love not only their tearjerkers, but their feel-good stories as well. For this, Filipino actors Xian Lim and Alex Gonzaga were masters of the game, making viewers feel “kilig” while giving them a few laughs along the way.

“Through Night and Day”

Paolo Contis and Alessandra de Rossi turned in one of their best works as Filipinos laughed and cried while watching this drama. Pinoys on social media couldn’t stop raving about “Through Night and Day,” and the movie was the most popular Filipino title for the year.

“Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap”

Speaking of laughs, this title is the most popular Filipino comedy on Netflix this year. Viewers were hilariously hooked with the performances of Pepe Herrera, Jerald Napoles, Jelson Bay and Paolo Contis, who played men wanting to be the number one gang in their neighborhood.

While there are a lot more Filipino titles to watch (like “Jowable,” “Jo Koy: In His Elements” and “Finding Agnes”), more are coming to Netflix soon. One of the more anticipated ones is coming out on Christmas Day, “Isa Pa With Feelings,” featuring Carlo Aquino and Maine Mendoza.

“Filipino audiences love entertainment, and like them we are fans of great stories and best in class content. We brought a wide variety of Filipino content by some of the finest creators in the country on Netflix this year, and we are proud to see how well they have been received. We look forward to bringing more amazing Filipino stories to Netflix in the future,” said Raphael Phang, Netflix manager of content acquisitions.
