Mayor: Capitol transfer to spur economic growth for Talisay

TALISAY City Mayor Nilo Jesus Antonio Lizares III is upbeat that the proposed transfer of the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol offices, if realized, will spur economic growth for the locality.

Lizares, in a statement, said this is a welcome development as this will bring economic opportunities for the city's progress.

"On behalf of the City of Talisay, I would like to personally thank the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental under the leadership of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson for the trust and confidence in considering our city as the new home of the offices of the Provincial Capitol," he added.

On Tuesday, December 15,m 2020, Lacson confirmed that the provincial government is studying the possibility of relocating the offices of the Capitol to a property in Talisay.

Provincial consultant Alfredo Benitez earlier said the plans of moving the seat of the provincial government to a neighboring city is in its early stage.

"It is hard for the seat of the provincial government to be located in a jurisdiction it does not control," he said.

Bacolod is a highly urbanized city that is not under the jurisdiction of the Negros Occidental Provincial Government.

The governor said the Capitol owns a 25-hectare property in Talisay City.

"If we continue with the plan to build new government offices at the old Provincial Administration Center, it will be so crowded here and we will have a problem with the parking," he added.

For Lizares, with Talisay as partner in rebuilding the province, they look forward to a more progressive Negros Occidental.
