TWO drug suspects, one of them was previously arrested but released through plea bargaining, were nabbed, while P40,000 worth of illegal drugs were seized in separate operations in Zamboanga Peninsula, the police reported Tuesday, December 22.

Previously arrested and released through plea bargaining is Alexander Vergara, 32, according to Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer.

Duco said Vergara was nabbed in a buy-bust operation around 11:10 a.m. Monday in Purok Gumamela in San Jose village, Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Seized from Vergara were P30,000 worth of shabu, a motorcycle, P500 marked money, and illegal drug paraphernalia.

Duco said Vergara was arrested in June 2019 in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay, and released through plea bargaining.

Duco identified the other arrested suspect Omar Layan Asiral, 25.

He said Asiral was arrested in a buy-bust operation around 3:40 p.m. Monday in Arena Blanco village, Zamboanga City.

Recovered from Asiral were some P10,000 worth of shabu packed in three heat-sealed plastic sachets and P200 marked money.

He said the suspects were detained while charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against them. (SunStar Zamboanga)
