Nearly 1,200 new infections added to case count

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, reported 1,196 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total case count in the country to 464,004.

The DOH case bulletin as of 4 p.m. Wednesday also showed that 27 more patients died from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), raising the death toll to 9,048. The case fatality rate remained at 1.95 percent.

There were 564 new recoveries, or a total of 429,972 recoveries. They comprise 92.7 percent of the total cases.

Quezon City and Rizal continued to post the highest numbers of new infections.

On Wednesday, Quezon City had 123 new cases, followed by Rizal (84), Manila City (74), Davao City (54), and Batangas (49).

There remained 24,984 active cases of infection in the country, or 5.4 percent of the total. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
