MMFF’s ‘Tagpuan,’ a story about life and love

LEAD actor and producer Alfred Vargas is excited to showcase his movie “Tagpuan” directed by director Mac Alejandre and written by Ricky Lee starting this Dec. 25, as part of the upcoming first digital Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) via Upstream.

Upstream is the newest video on demand platform created by Filipinos, for Filipinos.

Co-starring Iza Calzado and Shaina Magdayao, according to Vargas, “Tagpuan” is a matured love story intersecting the lives of three characters: Allan (Vargas), Agnes (Calzado) and Tanya (Magdayao) that tackles love and healing, the struggles and plights of married couples, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), immigrants and the diaspora.

Ex-couple Allan and Agnes meet and reconcile with each other in New York City after being separated for five years. Allan also ties in with another woman named Tanya while on a business trip in Hong Kong.

“This is the story of people who parted ways and reconciled, those who were once too scared of commitment, those who thought they weren’t ready to take the plunge just yet. Everybody will be able to relate to this,” Vargas shared during an interview via Zoom.

“Tagpuan” also marks the return of Vargas to the MMFF.

Wearing his main producer hat after the success of his produced movies including “Kaputol,” Vargas enthused that he welcomes the new platform with high spirits since MMFF has a lot of changes this year such as streaming the entries online instead of cinemas for the first time.

What makes him more excited about the possibility of this platform and streaming more films in the future is the fact that more people, including OFWs, can watch the film festival wherever they are: “Who doesn’t want their movies to be watched by a wider audience? And I’m so happy that with this, we can make OFWs, through this annual film fest, feel at home this Christmas. In an economic sense, we, producers will be able to produce more films as well if the bulk of the returns from the film fest will not just go to cinema operators,” said Vargas.
