THE Municipal Government of San Fernando recognized the help that two allied companies gave to the southern Cebu town to cope with and ride out the crisis brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mayor Lakambini Reluya handed the plaques of recognition to Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) and Solid Earth Development Corp. (SEDC) recently during her 2020 State of the Municipality Address.

SEDC president Dennis Tenefrancia, a lawyer, and the company’s community relations officer Gines Boltron received the plaque for the mining and ports operator for its “valuable contributions and relentless support” to San Fernando.

Vanessa Bongcawil, TCPI head of community and general affairs, also received the plaque for the cement manufacturer with her assistant Brijade Navasquez at the San Fernando Sports Complex.

“It gives us a sense of meaning to be here for our host communities in times of need and be able to help when it matters most,” Tenefrancia said.

He further said: “It is heartwarming to be recognized for having lent a hand.”

TCPI and SEDC first donated through the mayor 170 sacks of 50-kilogram rice in March and April to mitigate the immediate impact to those most affected when the government started to impose quarantine restrictions to contain the dreaded disease.

SEDC further donated 105 more sacks of 50-kg rice, this time directly to host and neighboring communities, plus two separate sets of care packages to the same communities released on two occasions in April and May.

By July, SEDC handed to the Municipal Health Office supplies its frontliners needed in attending to confirmed Covid-19 cases, persons under investigation and persons under monitoring at its quarantine facility.

Also, in cooperation with supplier Triple 8 Resources Development Corp., SEDC delivered and provided water to Barangays Bugho, Magsico, Tabionan and Tinubdan when the whole of Cebu was under ECQ.

SEDC supplies TCPI earth materials needed in cement manufacturing and operates the port where finished Grand Cement-branded products are shipped to various points in the country.
