AS FILIPINOS, you might have heard of several superstitious beliefs that many of us have been doing on New Year’s Eve. Do you know that these are not only popular in the country?

Other nooks in the world also have their respective beliefs when it comes to celebrating NYE, and these include fashion. Some of these lucky fashion trends in welcoming the New Year have been passed on from generation to generation.

Here are some of them that you may want to follow while enjoying the end of 2020 and greeting 2021 with an optimistic spirit:

1. It’s all about the undies. The color of the underwear you need to wear depends on what you want to achieve in the coming year. If you aim to have a new bundle of joy, or you’re starting a family, red is your best option. According to the Italian tradition, this color is associated with fertility. Meanwhile, if you want to experience peace and happiness in 2021, choose a white underwear, and blue if it’s a healthy body you have been hoping for. However, you have to take note of this: the underwear must be thrown away the day after the celebration for the belief to work. In short, if you’re not willing to give it up, it might be better to wear something not too expensive.

2. Wear anything yellow. If you want your 2021 to be a lot better than what you had in 2020, consider donning a yellow dress, blouse, shirt, polo, or anything you like. For many cultures, this color signifies luck and fortune, and it’s also good that it’s one of the two Pantone colors of the year. Therefore, you’ll draw good luck while staying “in” with the latest fashion.

3. Get chunky and colorful accessories. You may also want to stock up on chunky accessories to usher in more positive vibes this new year. Accordingly, many cultures believe that different colors have different representations. Thus, why not wear all of those to attract the utmost luck?

4. Wear something new, and in red. For the Chinese, it’s good to wear new clothes to usher in luck. Likewise, it’s better if it’s in red. Accordingly, such a color helps in driving away any bad fortune or bad spirit.

5. Polka dots, of course! Wearing clothes in polka dots is definitely the most popular custom or tradition in the Philippines when celebrating NYE. This means that you want to bring in more wealth and prosperity in the coming year.

While these customs and traditions have already become part of our lives, I still believe that nothing beats hard work and prayers. Have a safe and blessed New Year, everyone!
