FOR the third consecutive day, the Department of Health (DOH) reported less than 1,000 new cases of coronavirus infection.

Based on the December 29 case bulletin, there were 886 new infections on Tuesday, bringing the country’s total caseload to 471,526, including 23,348 active cases.

The cities and provinces with the highest number of cases were Davao City (61), Pampanga (58), Bulacan (45), Quezon City (45) and Cavite (37).

The DOH also said 38 additional patients succumbed to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), raising the death toll to 9,162. The case fatality rate remained at 1.94 percent.

There were 253 more recoveries. As of Tuesday, a total of 439,016 have recovered.

The DOH previously attributed the low number of cases to the closure of several laboratories during the Christmas holidays and a decrease in the number of people who had themselves tested for Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
