Great artists exhibit at Museo Dabawenyo

A RARE art event at Museo Dabawenyo is scheduled to open on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Great and legendary artists plus selected Fordians will include works of seven national artists as well as those of artists from the Ford Academy of the Arts.

From the collection of Aida Rivera Ford, paintings of Victorio Edades, Ang Kiukok, Jose Joya, HR Ocampo, Napoleon Abueva, Vicente Manansala and Solomon Saprid will be viewed.

The list of Fordian artists include: Ben Bañez Jr., Ric, Lao, Jimmy Ang, Benjamin Elayda, Rachel Holazo, Apolonio Quirap, Jose “Joe” Patinio, , Rodney Yap, Magtanggol Cadayona, Jun Cayas, Jong-jong Tangiday, Rey Bollozos, Dante Pintor, Bryan Cabrera, Bong Perez, Arthur Harrow, Jeffry Pantoja, Neil Casas, Joel Geolamen.

The Ford Academy of the Arts (then named Learning Center of the Arts) was established in 1980 under the direction of the Father of Modern Arts of the Philippines Victorio C. Edades.

Among its first teachers were Rachel Holazo, Raul Panlilio and Jun Alfon.

In 1991, National Arts Napoleon Abueva held a sculptural exhibit on the top floor of the Learning Center of the Arts "Abueva at Iba pang Manlilikha."

He stipulated that the name of the school be changed to Ford Academy of the Arts. It has produced internationally known artists headed by Bienvenido Bones Bañez who has been described as the "Greatest Living Surrealist from the Philippines."
