I CAN'T believe it's going to be a new year tomorrow.
It seems like these past 12 months flew by so quickly. At least for me, it has. I don't know about the others.
I had so many plans that had to be shelved because of the arrival of Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), in March. Not that these plans were anything out of the ordinary. After all, I am a creature of habit, someone who follows a strict regimen, day in and day out. Religiously.
So breaking routine on my part was almost unspeakable or unheard of. But ever since Cebu City was placed on community quarantine, I had no choice but to do just that. In fact, it took me a few weeks to get my groove back.
As they say, teaching an old dog new tricks is darn next to impossible. Not that I'm a dog. Or old for that matter.
I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. Obviously, I had to adjust and improvise. It's a good thing we humans are wired to be adaptable. Otherwise, we wouldn't be the scourge of this Earth. Not that I am suggesting that the parapraxis was me blaming humanity for the mess we're in.
Trust me, I'm taking it one step at a time.
Admittedly it was difficult in the beginning, especially since we didn't know much about the disease. Not that we know a lot more now but I say we're halfway in between, don't you say? I mean, enough so we don't have to fumble in the dark. Although we have to be extra careful not to trip on the news of a new Covid variant that is reportedly 70 percent more transmissible. That will certainly be a bummer.
By the way, I don't mean to be flippant. But I can't help it. It's how I deal with stress. And these past few months have indeed been very stressful.
Mind you, I also eat to cope, which might explain my oh-so-visible weight gain. And judging by the photos of friends and colleagues posted on the social network, I am not alone.
For many, food has become the lifeline that many go to or order for delivery during these desperate times, albeit only for those who can still afford them. Because, you see, the ongoing health crisis has had many casualties. And I'm not just referring to the loss of lives. Many Filipinos have also lost their jobs after months of lockdown.
Having just said that, I don't know how to end this year on a positive note.
But hey, at least members of the Presidential Security Group and I don't know how many high-ranking public officials have been vaccinated against Covid-19, right?
Right?
