A DAY before the date on which the barangays with zero Covid-19 cases were to be rewarded with P100,000 cash, the number of barangays with no reported Covid-19 case for the last 14 days dropped.
Based on the data of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), for the past days, there were 55 barangays with no reported Covid-19 case, however, it dropped to 52 barangays on December 30, 2020.
Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella previously said barangays which could beat Covid-19 from November 1 to December 31 will be given P100,000 cash as a
reward.
This means the barangays which still have an active transmission of the Covid-19 rose to 28.
The four barangays which originally got no case of Covid-19 since March still maintain their Covid-19-free status. These include barangays Buot, Taptap, Paril and Sudlon 1.
Cebu City has 80 barangays.
On Dec. 29, Cebu City logged 16 new Covid-19 cases.
This, after days of logging single-digit Covid-19 cases.
Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera, EOC deputy chief implementer, said 906 individuals were tested and 16 of them tested positive for the virus.
It has a positivity rate of 1.73 percent.
As of Dec. 30, Cebu City has 86 active Covid-19 cases.
Garganera said amid the threats of the new variant of Sars-CoV-2 which has been recorded in some countries, there is a need for stricter border controls.
Garganera said as of Dec. 30, the EOC is monitoring about 24 inbound travelers who are residents of Cebu City.
He said the inbound travelers are waiting for their respective results in various hotels located in the city.
Garganera was not able to specify from which countries the travelers came from.
To date, Covid-19 has infected 10,807 residents of Cebu City.
As of Dec. 29, Cebu City has 8.82 percent positivity rate out of the 122,470 individuals tested.
Of the total cases, 10,031 have recovered, or a 92.81 percent recovery rate.
The virus also took 690 lives or a case fatality rate of 6.38 percent.
Of the remaining active Covid-19 cases, 45 patients will welcome the 2021 at the New Normal Oasis for Adaptation and a Home Complex at the South Road Properties; five at the IC3 Bayanihan Center; 18 are in the city's public and government hospitals; while the rest are isolated in hotels and private hospitals.
