No rain in the forecast for Metro Cebu on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1

METRO Cebu will have fair weather when it welcomes the new year on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021.

Jhomer Eclarino, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)-Mactan station weather specialist, said Friday’s temperature is expected to be from 24 to 31 degrees Celsius.

But even though the prevailing forecast is for fair weather, some parts of Cebu may still experience isolated rain showers in the afternoon or evening, he said.

On Saturday, Jan. 2, rain will be expected to fall on Metro Cebu due to the tail-end of a frontal system, which is the current prevailing weather system in the whole archipelago.

“Taas ang chance sa mga pag-uwan sa Sabado (There’s a big chance that it will rain on Saturday), but so far, wala ta’y low pressure area nga gi-monitor (we have not monitored any low pressure area),” he said.

According to Pagasa, the tail-end of a frontal system is the boundary between the easterlies and the northeast monsoon or the “hanging Amihan.” / WBS
