Troops capture wounded NPA combatant

GOVERNMENT troops have provided medical assistance to a wounded communist New People’s Army (NPA) terrorist they captured in the province of Sultan Kudarat, military officials announced Saturday, January 2, 2021.

Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), identified the captured NPA as Elmer Lasib, who carries the aliases of Ka Billy, Ka Bodo and Ka Bogs, the former West Front Commanding Officer of GF Musa of the NPA’s Far South Mindanao Region.

Vinluan said the troops from the 38th Infantry Battalion (IB) were scouring Sitio Upper Compac in Baglas village, Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat when they spotted Lasib around 3:45 p.m. Friday.

Colonel Eduardo Gubat, commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, said the troops immediately provided first aid to Lasib, who is now in stable condition.

Gubat said Lasib was temporarily placed under the custody of the 38IB for further investigation.

“The military assists even the worst enemy of the state in times when they need it the most,” said Major General Juvymax Uy, commander of the 6th Infantry Division.

“We strictly abide by the International Humanitarian Law in all our operations,” Uy added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
