EXCEPT for two fireworks-related injuries, New Year celebration in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) was generally peaceful, according to the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Cordillera.
In Mountain Province, a 12-year-old boy in Paracelis sustained eye injuries after his playmate aimed a boga or can canon in his face.
The victim was brought to the Paracelis District Hospital for treatment and was later discharged from the health facility.
In Ifugao Province, a 34-year-old male in Alfonso Lista sustained injuries in his neck after an old boga accidentally exploded.
The victim was brought to the Potia District Hospital and was later on
transferred to the De Vera Hospital in Santiago City, Isabela for treatment.
PRO-Cordillera deployed 1,178 police personnel in the region for the New Year revelry.
Brigadier General R'win Pagkalinawan, PRO-Cordillera director, expressed his gratitude to the people of the region for making the traditional New Year's festivities generally peaceful.
Pagkalinawan earlier instructed the different units of PRO-Cordillera to conduct a massive information drive and to strictly enforce Executive Order 28, which provides for the regulation and control of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices during the recent Yuletide season.
PRO-Cordillera also recorded zero cases of illegal discharge of firearms during the said occasion.
