REACHING the golden year is fulfillment for Sunstar journalist Teresa D. Ellera, who marked her 50th birthday on January 6.

She hosted a simple golden birthday celebration with a conservative number of family, classmates and friends.

Before her 50th, her firstborn daughter Danicah Therese Sembrano Moya got married to her former schoolmate John Patrick Moya on December 28, which she considered as a meaningful part of her family.

Ellera started her media career as a broadcaster of RMN Radyo (Agong) and progressed into print journalism up to the present.

Reaching 50 is a fulfillment considering that she has survived many crucial challenges in the field of media practice since she started working in the 1990s.

Soon after she graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, Bacolod, she entered radio and honed her communication skills in Hiligaynon newscast until she anchored a radio program for decades.

She currently serves as a co-anchor of the block time radio program "Mercado Publico" aired via DYRL Radio Pilipino and streams via DYRL Facebook page every day with veteran broadcaster Vicente "Vic" Mercado who served as her mentor in radio.

Ellera wishes that God will continue to grant her good health and a happy and loving family.

She has a daughter and a son, Danicah Therese, with the nickname "Newsy" and Dhels Jaster, her youngest.

She also welcomed her son-in-law John Patrick to her family, who shows to be a loving and caring person to her daughter and the rest of the family.

Teresa has withstood many challenges in life, but her catchword would always be "Kalma lang" (relax) because every problem has a solution. But one should need to relax first so that solution can be achieved in a peaceful means.

She thanked her family and friends for joining her on her 50th birthday.
