Jasaan bet wins Miss Kuyamis 2021

DANNAH Joy Tempra, representing the municipality of Jasaan, was crowned as the Miss Kuyamis 2021 in the province's first virtual coronation event on Thursday, January 7, 2021.

Tempra landed in the top 5 spot after she won the Best in Gown minor award and Miss Beauty Wise corporate award.

All of the 20 candidates' swimwear and evening gowns were furnished by celebrity designer Bea Bianca of the House of Bea Bianca.

During the virtual coronation event, each of the top 5 candidates were given the question: "The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the tourism industry has been devastating. As Miss Kuyamis who serves as a tourism ambassadress of Misamis Oriental, what can you do to help revive tourism in this province?"

The 18-year-old model said she will help encourage Misamisnons and other local tourists to explore the several tourism sites of Misamis Oriental.

"Loving MisOr more means unraveling its beauty from the land to the sea while keeping in mind the safety protocols that needs to be followed to ensure the well-being of the community," Tempra said.

Together with her on the top 5 spot are Katheryn Guipetacio of the municipality of Sugbongcogon, the Miss Kuyamis 2021 First Runner-up; Princess Nicole Segundo of Naawan, the Miss Kuyamis 2021 Second Runner-up; Angeliza Navajo of Claveria, the Miss Kuyamis 2021 Third Runner-up; and Alyssa Maria Cordova of Gitagum, the Miss Kuyamis 2021 Fourth Runner-up.

Apart from Tempra, Navajo won the Best in Swimsuit and Best in Kuyamis inspired Cocktail Attire minor awards, while Cordova was awarded as Miss Photogenic.

According to Provincial Tourism Department head lawyer Jeffrey Saclot, all of the Miss Kuyamis runner-ups will receive cash prizes and beauty products from the pageant's sponsors while the Miss Kuyamis 2021 will have the symbolic crown and major sponsorship packages.

Tempra will also have the opportunity to represent Misamis Oriental in any national competition and present Kuyamis in any national costume competition.

In 2020, Miss Kuyamis 2020 Isobel June Tiaño won the Best in National Costume sporting the Kuyamis-inspired attire in the Miss Philippines Earth pageant.
