ABOUT eight barangays in Bacolod City were affected by floods due to heavy rains triggered by a Low Pressure Area with the combined effect of the tail-end of the frontal system Friday, January 8, 2021.

Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas, cluster of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), said Friday the rains caused floods in some areas of Purok Masinadyahon, Barangay Bata; Barangays 3 and 4; Puroks Santol and Carvic, Barangay Mandalagan; Parreno Street, Barangay 28; GK Village, Barangay Banago; and Hernaez Street, Barangay Taculing.

He said these areas were hit by floods because of clogged waterways due to heavy rainfall.

The DRRMO alerted its Emergency Response Services and the Emergency Operation System 911.

“Some of the areas were hit by floods due to the overflow of floodwaters from the creek, but it’s only a gutter-level and there was no evacuation,” Vargas said.

He said the floodwaters subsided after a few hours in some areas.

Vargas noted that some of the drainages in said areas could not cope with the inflow of water.

He said the City Government already created a team to concentrate on the drainage system of the city with the Department of Public Works and Highways.
