Fashion trends having a comeback

PERHAPS the best thing about fashion, aside from the dressing up itself, is that the fashion trends of a few generations ago do a comeback.

I would raid my parents’ closet and would hang out on Pinterest for inspiration. So far, I’ve discovered a striped white-gray polo shirt of my father and a flowy floral skirt of my mother. She wore it during the baptism of my brother in 1995.

Now, I’ve noticed that there are fashion trends my older sisters used to wear during the early 2000s in their teens that are having a comeback now. Here are just some of them:

1. Rectangular-neckline blouse

The rectangular neckline highlights the length of the neck, the collarbone, and the shoulders. I usually come across these designs on Pinterest and online fashion shops.

2. Plaid mini skirt

Think Britney Spears’ Hit Me Baby One More Time music video. The plaid mini skirt usually displays a young school girl look. This is especially perfect paired with a good-fitted sweater, perhaps a turtleneck.

I recently bought myself this one from a friend in a former job. It’s a black mini skirt with thin plaid lines in white and red. It’s a very comfortable wear and can sometimes even be paired with a slightly loose top.

Plaid mini skirts can come in zippers, wrap-around, or garterized.

3. Scrunchies

Back when I was younger and my sisters were teenagers, these weren’t called scrunchies. They were called ponytails, at least in our place it was. They weren’t really that fancy back then. It was just a basic tool to gather one’s hair in a neat ponytail or a bun.

But now, these hair accessories are fancier. Obviously, one thing is that they come in prettier names. Aside from that, they are also made from different fabrics – they’re satin, silk, cotton, etc.

4. Baguette Bag

I clearly remember this when I was younger. We used to have a few of these lying around the house owned by my sisters and my mother. When you watch 90s to 2000s movies, chances are you’re also going to spot rich characters using one of these. It was the ‘it’ bag then.

Now, it’s having a comeback! This photo was taken from EazyPeazy, a Filipino online bag shop. They come in black, grey, and olive green.

Ladies may have felt nostalgic coming across this and it became one of their bestsellers. It’s not only pretty but also has enough space for your essentials.

5. Slacks

Raid your mother’s closet and look for slacks they don’t wear anymore. If it doesn’t fit you, take it to the tailor to be altered. That’s exactly what I did!

They’re perfect to be paired with a tucked-in top and can be worn on casual days or office meetings. This is also ideal for people in their 20s who are young professionals. As they say, wear and express fashion according to your age.
