Housewife unscathed in grenade attack

A HOUSEWIFE escaped unscathed in a grenade attack in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Monday, January 11.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 10:45 p.m. Sunday in Purok 2, Compostela village, Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Duco identified the would-be victim as Elizabeth Tanio Paug, 57, a housewife.

Duco said investigation showed that prior to the incident, Paug heard a commotion from a window beside her bedroom.

He said Paug saw Danilo Titican and an unidentified companion removing the window glass blades and threw a hard object inside, which later turned out to be a grenade.

He said Paug was lucky as she was not hurt when the grenade exploded. The suspects fled and went into hiding.

The motive in the incident is believed to be land dispute. (SunStar Zamboanga)
