Meditalk: Needs help for muscle cramps (Part 2)

(Foreword: This is the continuation of our response to Nice Nicey on her need for help for her muscle cramps.)

DEAR Nice Nicey,

Moving on, if the cause of your muscle spasm is unknown, then, you must do exercise and take painkillers.

Of course, exercise can help you in your way out from these nasty muscle cramps.

As a matter of fact, most cases of leg cramps can be treated with exercises. And here’s how you do it – since not any kind of exercise will help you.

1. Stretch and massage the affected muscle. However, these are only temporary measures. That is why you still keep on getting them. I believe that there might be some other underlying reasons in your case.

2. Walk and move around on your heels for a few minutes. Don’t forget to massage those areas. The improved circulation offered by massage can help nourish your sore areas.

And here are the exercises that can help you prevent those nasty cramps.

3. Stretch the affected muscles three times a day. By now, you already know where these muscles are. Go for them. So, if it’s your calf muscles that are getting these naughty cramps, then, do this exercise I’ll describe to you.

Stand from a wall at approximately a meter away.

Now, lean forward with your arms outstretched while touching the wall. Be sure to keep the soles of your feet flat on the floor.

Try to hold to this position for about five to ten seconds before you release.

Repeat the said exercise for about five minutes.

For better results, do this three times a day. You can also do one session before you sleep. Just remember that the effect you get from exercise won’t be overnight. Sometimes, you will need about three months to see some positive effects.

Good luck!
