NCR police chief denies claims of Dacera’s friends

NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Vicente Danao Jr. on Thursday, January 14, 2021, denied the claims of Christine Dacera’s friends that they were “coerced” by the police into issuing false statements.

“During their interview at ‘yung mga information na nilabas nila sa kanilang Facebook page mismo, wala naman silang kinwento na nabugbog sila, bakit ngayon biglang nagkaroon ng bugbugan hindi natin alam for whatever reason na sila lang ang nakakaalam,” Danao said.

“Pero as far as the Makati City Police Station is concerned per information coming from chief of police himself there is no such thing as bugbugan or coercion or anything about drugs na kinoerce sa kanila ng ibigay na salaysay there is nothing na ganun na nangyari,” he added.

The NCRPO has provided some pictures during the interrogation to deny the claims.

Danao said charges of perjury may be filed against JP dela Serna and Rommel Galido, who admitted making false claims as they made their statement under oath.

He said they amended the case during the preliminary hearing held on Wednesday at the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office and included eight more persons of interest.

Danao said they are gathering more evidence and information which may shed light on the incident.

He said the persons of interest who occupied Room 2207 of the City Garden Grand Hotel on the night of Dacera’s death have yet to give their statements.

Dacera went back and forth between room 2207 and their room, 2209, hours before she was found unresponsive in the bathtub of their hotel room on New Year’s Day. Police and her family believed she was raped before her death.

The occupants of the Room 2207 reportedly presented themselves to the National Bureau of Investigation to give their statements.

On Wednesday evening, January 13, Dela Serna and Galido retracted their statement that pinned down one of their friends, Mark Anthony Rosales.

Dela Serna said his previous statement that he saw Rosales holding drugs during their party was not true.

Galido also retracted his claim that Dacera complained to him about Rosales allegedly spiking her drink.

He said Dacera merely complained of a headache and of feeling dizzy because of too much drinking.

Dela Serna and Galido both said they were pressured by the police as well as Dacera’s family during the interrogation into making false statements.

They said they were not in the right state of mind because of stress, anxiety and intimidation when they were questioned and asked to issue sworn statements. (SunStar Philippines)
