BOC seizes P420M contraband in 2020

THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu seized a total of 69 shipments of undeclared, misdeclared, misclassified, and undervalued goods worth over P460 million in 2020.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Friday morning, January 15, 2021, the BOC-Port of Cebu said seized in various anti-smuggling operations include tobacco and agricultural products, used clothing, motor vehicles, and parts, unregistered medicines and food, general merchandise, and counterfeit products.

These apprehensions, the BOC said, are the result of the vigilance and close monitoring of shipments, better intelligence, x-ray technology, and coordination with other regulating agencies and the public through confidential reporting.

The installation of the new portal x-ray machine last June 2020, in addition to its existing x-ray facilities, have also contributed to the Port’s intensified border protection measures.

The Port of Cebu then again reminded its stakeholders to secure the necessary import permits and clearances, file goods declarations properly, and pay the correct duties and taxes. (WBS)
