Mandaue companies urged to settle taxes, fees early

THE Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has reminded business owners in Mandaue City to pay their taxes and fees early and avoid the last-minute rush even with the extended period.

This, as the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) of Mandaue City extended the application for business permits and renewal through City Ordinance 15-2021-1614 beyond Jan. 20.

“To ensure compliance to the health standards and avoid crowding due to the number of business applicants, the extension of the renewal period is scheduled per barangay cluster. We urge business owners to submit their applications before the designated deadlines to avoid penalties and/or surcharges,” the Mandaue BPLO Facebook post read.

MCCI president Steven Yu welcomed the extension as this will give ample time for all business owners to work on their requirements on the back of the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

“MCCI requested for this extension in consideration of our pandemic situation, and our dynamic local government unit (LGU) leaders, especially the Sangguniang Panlungsod acted on it without delay, and we thank them for their strong compassion and commitment to the Mandauehanons,” Yu said.

The city’s e-BPLO is among the first in the country that quickly shifted to digitalization to prevent Covid-19 transmission.

Despite the extension, Yu urged businesses and individuals to pay and not wait for the final date.

“In this way, when glitches related to the internet connection or other technical issues occur, we still have extra days’ allowance to go through the process again without being subjected to penalties, interests and surcharges,” he said.

Since it is the city’s first year to use the e-BPLO system, Yu also asked for the community’s understanding if there would be glitches.

“Always check your internet connection when transacting. Eventually, this new system will bring about greater ease of doing business and high productivity,” he said.

He said Mandaue City will benefit immensely from the new system, and is expected to become the top choice for any new business investments in the Visayas and Mindanao. / JOB
