Tell it to SunStar: Minors at large

A GROUP of minors reportedly from Sitio Maharlika in Barangay Sambag 2, Cebu City have been roaming the streets of its neighbor, Sambag 1, well into the night.

Aside from violating the City’s curfew ordinance, which currently is 11 p.m., they have no business being outside their houses because they are under age.

They cause a ruckus with their loud voices and with the bottles that they break and leave lying in the middle of the road.

Neighbors have already called the barangay to complain.

One of the tanods from Sambag 1 I spoke to told me they already accosted the minors only to be insulted. Powerless to take them by force for fear of being accused of child abuse, the tanods have no choice but to let them go. Of course, it doesn’t help that the minors are much quicker than them.

I don’t think the police can do much to address the situation either. Then again, operatives of the Abellana Police Station hardly patrol the streets of Sambag 1 even though the station is in the barangay. Maybe they do, but I have yet to see them. Either way, the problem needs to be addressed soon.

Two minors tried to climb the gate of one of the homeowners the other night before they were caught.
