NPA rebel wanted for murder arrested in Toboso

ANOTHER suspected member of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay San Isidro, Toboso was arrested, pfficials said.

Colonel Michael Samson, 303rd Infantry Brigade acting commander, identified the rebel as Roberto Pandacan, a member of the NPA Northern Negros Front, who was arrested Thursday, January 14, 2021, by police and the 79th Infantry Battalion soldiers.

He was arrested by virtue of arrest warrants issued by San Carlos Regional Trial Court Judge Danilo Amisola for murder and frustrated murder.

Pandacan, alias Berting, was linked to the ambush of civilians in Sitio Toril, Barangay Salamanca, Toboso, in July 13, 2009, that left three civilians dead, including a 13-year-old, and causing injuries to three others.

Samson said Pandacan was also denied bail by Amisola for murder charges.

The arrest of Pandacan was also made on the same day when policemen and 79IB soldiers also apprehended Ruffa Baynosa, alias Ka Nexie, in Barangay San Fernando, Talisay City, for similar charges.

Baynosa was reported to have returned to the residence of Marilyn Dianton on January 14, a day after a two-month-old infant was left behind by a group of NPA rebels, who scampered in different directions, after noticing soldiers approaching the house in Barangay San Fernando, Talisay City.

“May justice be served to the victims and their families of the unfortunate incident in 2009," Samson said.
