Barangay Ginebra’s ace guard Stanley Pringle was named the Best Player of the Conference for the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup.

The award was the cherry on top for Pringle who helped lead the Kings to their very first Philippine Cup crown in 13 years. Pringle also made it to the league’s Elite Five, which also had Phoenix’s duo of Matthew Wright and Calvin Abueva, Ginebra’s Japeth Aguilar and TNT’s Poy Erram.

Curiously, TNT’s Cebuano star Roger Ray Pogoy did not win any of the awards in spite of his scintillating performance last season.

Pringle’s win was one of many for the Ginebra franchise during the virtual special awards night. Scottie Thompson was given the Samboy Lim Sportsmanship Award while Prince Caperal was named the Most Improved Player, beating out Phoenix big man Justin Chua.

Pringle finished sixth in the statistical points race after he normed 18.73 points, 6.36 rebounds, 3.18 assists during the round-robin elimination round. However, he reigned supreme when it came to votes from the media, players and the league itself, finishing with 1,640 points.

In second was Phoenix’s Matthew Wright who finished with 1,578 points while Pogoy managed just 958 points.

Meanwhile, Meralco’s Aaron Black won the Outstanding Rookie award, beating out Alaska’s Cebuano bruiser Kevin Barkley Eboña. (JNP)
