THE Municipal Council of Arayat has unanimously approved a resolution requesting President Rodrigo Duterte, through Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexi Nograles, to include among the government's priority projects the establishment of the Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) satellite and extension campus building in the town.

Arayat Municipal Council presiding officer and Vice Mayor Sixto Mallari handed Resolution 028 Series of 2019 to Nograles during his visit last Friday, January 15, in Barangay Bitas to distribute aide to typhoon victims under the Pilipinas Kontra Gutom program.

Mallari said the resolution stated that currently, there are no colleges or universities or leading vocational schools in Arayat town.

"Our Constitution provides that the government shall protect and promote the right of all citizens to quality education at all levels and shall take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all," he said.

Mallari cited the value of education to meet the demands of development, saying knowledge must be accessible to equip the municipality's human resources and make them ready for technological and economical advancement.

"We have long been dreaming for the establishment of a local college or university but because of the local government's lack of sufficient funds, we are not able to implement the construction of the DHVSU satellite and extension campus," Mallari lamented.

Mallari said that if the construction of the DHVSU satellite and extension campus building pushes through, indigent students in Arayat will no longer have to go to government colleges in Magalang and Bacolor towns.

He said with the valuable assistance of Nograles, he and the Municipal Council members of Arayat are confident that their request will be given proper action in order to benefit the poor but deserving students of the town. (Chris Navarro)
