Suspected gun runner in San Fernando killed in shootout

AN INDIVIDUAL suspected of trafficking firearms was killed in a shootout with authorities on Tuesday evening, January 19, in the City of San Fernando.

Police Regional Office-Central Luzon Director Valeriano De Leon identified the suspect as Edison Paras of Barangay Dolores, City of San Fernando.

Initial investigation revealed that prior to the shootout, joint personnel of 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, Pampanga PPO and City of San Fernando Police Station conducted the buy-bust operation for loose firearms against the suspect.

Sensing that he was dealing with lawmen, Paras allegedly immediately fired upon the operatives, prompting other lawmen to return fire and causing Paras to sustain gunshot wounds.

He was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention but died while undergoing treatment.

Recovered from the suspect were caliber .45 pistol without serial number, a sachet containing suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu), live ammunition and deformed slugs.
