Legal action eyed vs 5 ROFs from UK

NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Wednesday, January 20, 2021, that they are studying possible legal action against five returning Negrenses after they allegedly did not tell authorities that they came from the United Kingdom (UK) before going home to Negros.

Two of the five returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the municipality of Pontedevedra tested positive for the coronavirus, while the three others who belong to one family were from the town of E.B. Magalona.

Lacson also said swab samples of the two who tested positive will be submitted to Metro Manila for further tests, especially for the new variant of the virus from the UK.

"This is an incident that also leads to the decision of the province to maintain the health protocols on returning Negrenses that they have to undergo swab test upon arrival to the province," Lacson said.

The governor also confirmed that they are filing complaints to the National Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases against the five OFWs, who went home to the province without undergoing the required swab testing in Manila.

They allegedly misdeclared that they are locally stranded individuals.
