Former ASG member killed in Tawi-tawi drug bust

A FORMER member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was killed in a drug bust in Tawi-tawi, the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) said on Friday, January 22, 2021.

Riyadzkan Maulana, also known as Tamyang, allegedly resisted arrest and drew a hand grenade during the drug bust at around 11 a.m. on January 21 in Barangay Poblacion, Sapa-Sapa.

“Based on the report from the ground, Maulana was a former member of the ASG/KFRG under Salip Murah Asgali and Majan Sahijuan, a.k.a. Apo Mike. He already surrendered to Sapa-Sapa MPS last February 20, 2019, but continued with his illegal drug trade,” Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan Jr., Westmincom commander.

Vinluan said the suspect coddled ASG rebels and supported the perpetrators of the January 16, 2020 kidnapping incident in Tambisan Island, Lahad Datu, Sabah.

On January 19, 2020, Maulana eluded arrest in a military operation which killed four people.

Recovered from the scene were one hand grenade, one lighter, one motorized boat, seven heat-sealed plastic containing white crystalline substances believed to be shabu, six aluminum foils, one improvised toter (water pipe type), and one P500 marked money.
