Angeles City unveils National Arts Month festivities

THE Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr., rolled out the list of events and activities for the National Arts Month (NAM) in support of the annual celebration of arts and creativity this February.

The Angeles City Tourism Office (ACTO) headed by Anneleen Sugui will open the month-long celebration with an art exhibit featuring the works of the 72-year-old visual artist Violeta Gregorio of Barangay Malabanias.

Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel said the exhibit, which will be held at the "Salangi Ko Pu" Art Gallery located at the second floor of the Angeles City Library, will be open to public viewing on a scheduled basis.

"Since we are still promoting social distancing and other minimum health protocols, we will allow only five persons to enter the exhibit hall at a given time," Manuel said.

The exhibit is in collaboration with Acto and the One Town, One Product (Otop) Store Angeles headed by Irish Bonus Llego.

Gregorio's paintings, which were initially displayed at the Otop Store Angeles, will be open for sale during the exhibit. Proceeds will be given to her, in order to support her living.

Acto has also lined up a series of online tutorial videos for aspiring artists and these can be accessed via the Angeles City Tourism Office's Facebook page.

The videos will feature basic art tutorial on color blending, which will be facilitated by painter Arnel Garcia; basic art tutorial for children by Glossy Lairiel Co; and basic art tutorial on acrylic painting for young adults by painter Arnel Mallari.

"This year, ang bibigyan natin ng pansin ay yung mga artists na dapat madiscover dahil sa talent na mayroon sila. Aside sa celebration, this is also a call to our fellow Angelenos to support local designs and crafts. Lahat ng mga gawa ng mga featured artists this year ay idi-display sa ating OTOP Store," said Manuel , who is also an art advocate.

February is NAM per Presidential Proclamation 683 signed in 1991.

Also called "Ani ng Sining," this year's festivities will revolve around the theme "Alab-sining, Alay-sigla."

"The National Arts Month 2021 celebration seeks to conserve, promote, and popularize Filipino artistic creations; integrate the arts in the community life; and harness the arts as catalysts for values education," the National Center for Culture and the Arts said.
