THE Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental conducted a simultaneous veterinary relief operations in the province's Third District on Tuesday, January 26.
It was part of the PVO's disaster recovery efforts in some of the recently flood-hit areas in cities of Talisay, Silay and Victorias.
The veterinary relief operations included services like deworming, consultation, vaccination, vitamin B supplementation of pet and livestock animals.
The PVO also dispersed a total of 300 heads of free-range chicks (FRC), and conducted distribution of information-education campaign materials on raising livestock during the rainy season.
Along with the veterinary services extended, dewormers, antibiotic solubles, electrolytes, vitamins and vaccines were also given for free.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said a portion of the dispersed free-range chicken is a replenishment of stocks of recipient-raisers, who were affected by floods.
Decena said they deployed its veterinarians and technical personnel in various locations in coordination with the Provincial Veterinary District Field Unit VI.
Also, the deployment of veterinarians is in collaboration with the veterinary offices of the three local government units (LGUs) with the assistance of private stakeholders, he added.
In Victorias City, the veterinary relief operations were conducted in badly-hit barangays such as Barangays 6A and 7 with 97 clients served.
About 101 clients have availed themselves of the relief operations in Barangays E. Lopez and Bagtic in Silay City, and another 131 beneficiaries in Barangay 14B in Talisay City.
"In taking the lead of the district-wide activity, the PVO intends to promote disaster mitigation and recovery not just for the welfare and productivity of the animals but also to that of residents," the provincial veterinarian added.
