14 fishermen nabbed for illegal fishing

POLICEMEN and personnel of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) have arrested 14 fishermen and seized three motor boats in an anti-illegal fishing campaign off Zamboanga Sibugay.

The Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office said the policemen from Alicia town and BFAR personnel were on seaborne patrol when they chanced upon the fishermen aboard three fishing boats.

The fishermen were caught illegally fishing around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, in the waters of Lapirawan village.

Police identified the arrested fishermen as Ronel Abcede, 25; Larry Sajili, 30; Elvin Sarino, 47; Junifer Hontilla, 39; Richard Pingkian, 40; Billy Anito, 52; Junrey Llanes, 27; Lito Morehon, 34; Edgar Monteron, 28; Marlon Solis, 30; Anecito Canoy, 50; Alex Canoy, 29; Jade Enao, 40; and Dionisio Jorolan, 54.

Confiscated from the fishermen were three fishing boats with three engines each, 50 meters fishing net, and 750 meters rope with P300,000 estimated value.

The apprehended fishermen and confiscated items are now under the custody of Alicia Municipal Police Station for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
