CITY OF SAN FERNANDO---The City College of San Fernando Pampanga (CCSFP), together with 11 other local colleges and universities (LUCs) in Central Luzon received on January 22, 2021, the Gawad Parangal conferred by the Commission on Higher Education (Ched).

Gawad Parangal is given to LUCs with institutional recognition issued from 2016-2019.

Dr. J. Prospero “Popoy” De Vera III, Ched Chairperson, said that all concerned LUCs are also given Certificates of Eligibility which make them eligible for free higher education and to receive funds from Ched as provided by Republic Act 10931 or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

Lawyer Gloria Victoria Bañas, CCSFP Associate Professor IV (Officer-in-Charge) and President of the Association of LUCs, explained that CCSFP got both awards because it had fully complied with the requirements for Institutionalized Recognition and Certificate of Program Compliance in all its offered programs.

Bañas underscored the impact of the award especially amidst the challenges the higher education system is facing during this health crisis.

“Indeed, this award is highly motivating, inspiring, and a reassuring hug that we all needed to sustain ourselves during this challenging time,” Bañas said.

Bañas also thanked the Local Government Unit through the leadership of Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago who prioritized education in the city.

“To our beloved mayor, we cannot thank you enough for your confidence, support, and encouragement. Rest assured that we will continue to participate and collaborate with Ched to attain our shared goals for the sector and to remain steadfast and committed to pursuing the local government’s vision for its youth through quality education,” she remarked.

“I also take this occasion to thank our supportive local government officials: from our governor, mayor, and down to other local government officials, including our barangay officials. Even while the local resources are tight, the needs of the LUCs were not ignored,” Bañas added.

CCSFP was formally opened in 2009, making it the eighth city college in Central Luzon.

It is one of the eight LUCs that have been awarded the Certificate of Recognition between 2016 to 2019.

Out of 2,087 schools, CCSFP ranked 11th among the top-performing schools offering Secondary Teacher Education courses in the Philippines. The ranking was based on the results of the September 2019 Licensure Examination for Teachers released by the Professional Regulation Commission.

When Covid-19 restricted physical classes since March 2020, CCSFP, through the guidance of Santiago, adopted modular distance learning and started distributing learning modules or course packets to various barangays in the city to sustain the delivery of quality education for its students, known to be the “ASLAG Ning Balen.” (PR)
