EDUCATION plays vital to all people but sad to say, not everyone has the opportunity to get access to it mostly due to economic reasons.

Good thing some institutions extend scholarships to deserving students as education truly frees us from the bond of economic deprivation and ignorance.

The SM College Scholarship continues to extend scholarships to deserving students despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

The said educational program began in 1993 through its SM Foundation (SMFI) which has extended help to deserving and qualified students from low-income households for them to earn their bachelor’s degrees or advance in technical-vocational studies.

To date, the SM College Scholarship Program has helped 5,500 scholars reach their dream of completing their studies.

This scholarship program started from the vision of the late SM patriarch, Henry “Tatang” Sy, Sr. He believed that if you send one child from an economically challenged family to college, that child would have more opportunities to have gainful employment and later on help uplift the economic status of their family.

The foundation now opens its doors to incoming college freshmen to avail the SM College Scholarship for the School Year 2021-2022.

This will allow more graduating Grade 12 students time to comply with the application requirements, the foundation has also just announced that the application period has been extended until March 20, 2021.

The SM scholarship program is open to Grade 12 graduates from public and private schools in the areas covered.

For private school graduates, applicants should have the Department of Education (DepEd) voucher and be able to finish Junior High from a public school.

The applicant should have a General Weighted Average grade of at least 88% or its equivalent for Grade 12 – 1st semester; and a total household income of at most P150,000 per year.

The program covers the following field of study: Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, and Electronics), Education (Elementary and Secondary); Accountancy, and Financial Management, among others.

They can access to https://scholarship.sm-foundation.org. Again, the deadline for application is on March 20, 2021.
