Guagua Community College gets Gawad Parangal from Ched

GUAGUA Community College received the Gawad Parangal from the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) in ceremonies held at the Bulacan State University over the weekend.

It then joined the ranks of other colleges run by local government units that were bestowed with the distinguished award.

Mayor Dante Torres received the award from Ched chair Prospero de Vera.

The Gawad Parangal comes with the institutional recognition whereby the awardees are given a certificate of eligibility to receive funds from Ched as provided by Republic Act 10931 or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

This means all the awardees passed the standards set by Ched to open particular courses with free tuition endowment from the agency.

The Guagua Community College is one of the few community colleges in Pampanga operated by the Municipal Government in the town of Guagua. The college offers Bachelor of Science courses to Guagua students from less fortunate families.

Other awardees in Pampanga include the City College of Angeles, Mabalacat City College and City College of San Fernando.

To qualify for the award, a college must abide by standards of effective learning systems and administration of the local colleges, high standard of school facilities and equipment, and sustainability of operations.
