A SOLDIER assigned with the engineering battalion plunged to death in a ditch in a remote village of Zamboanga del Norte, a police official said Thursday, January 28, 2021.
Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday along the national highway of Soguilon village in Siayan town, Zamboanga del Norte.
Duco identified the fatality as Private Jaymar Torrejas Cajes, 25, of the 551st Engineering Battalion based in Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.
He said Caje’s companions told the police of Siayan town that they were traveling from Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte to Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur when they noticed the victim was no longer tailing them.
The companions of Cajes further said they found the victim and his motorcycle in a ditch when they returned to locate him.
Duco said Cajes was rushed to Siayan Siayan Diagnostic Center for treatment but was pronounced dead by the attending physician. (SunStar Zamboanga)
