Lizada: Bravo

“A change is brought about because ordinary people do extraordinary things.”― Barack Obama

I HAVE to write this.

Two nights ago I got a call from a good friend whom I have not been in touch with. It was a pleasant conversation until it turned a little serious. His only daughter is a nurse at the Covid ward of the SPMC. And just like any father he was worried not just about the welfare of his daughter but he was concerned for her very own life. There were times when he tried to ask her to resign because of the danger that she faced day by day. Yes, day by day. But she would not resign in spite of it all. And you know why? She said “ because this is what I signed for.”

Now, let us compare that with the jerks and the assholes (this time I will not apologize for my words) that (because they are not who) constantly defy simple rules like wearing face masks and shields, keeping some distance, not sneezing or coughing, washing hands and avoiding large crowds to watch and or participating in social gatherings that can be defined as unnecessary or even outright stupid. Think about those idiots who think this pandemic is some big hoax. Or some tragedy that they can use for their own agenda or pockets. (Just a reminder according to Dante, there are 9 levels of hell and the seventh level is reserved for those who do Fraud, in short ang mga corrupt) Think about those people who think that everything is normal so they act normal, oblivious to the danger around.

It can be mind blowing were it not life threatening. I simply cannot understand these people who act this way. And today there are so many hard-headed, arrogant, sadistic people roaming around the world, this nation and in this city. No wonder our cases are going up.

And then I think of those who are risking their lives. These health workers who are doing their jobs, these inspiring women and men who day by day, yes day by day willingly march into covid wards because that is their commitment and yes their job. They do it because it is what they do. It is not even about salaries anymore because what can money do when faced with an infection.

This is a higher calling that only higher people can see. The despicable cannot even see a calling even if it hits them. It is frustrating to see so many nitwits defying rules and getting away with them. Look at the streets today. In open defiance. What idiots. And if you ask them you get replies like “tao lang kami.”

And when they get infected who treats them? Those workers who follow rules and protocol. They are the ones who will face up to the stupidity of people. These brave people have to face assholes.
