BACOLOD City has no record of the new coronavirus variant.
This was stressed by Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical data and analysis of Emergency Operations Center-Task Force Friday, January 29, 2021, after the city’s probable suspects of the new Covid-19 variant tested negative for the virus.
“So far, we don’t have a case of the new Covid-19 variant,” Sorongon said.
He said they earlier recorded three overseas Filipino workers who were from the United Arab Emirates, but all of them yielded negative results and are asymptomatic.
He added the three OFWs were already discharged from home quarantine.
Sorongon noted that all the OFWs who were coming from the countries facing travel restrictions underwent swab tests and are in quarantine.
“For now, there’s no need to send the specimen of our OFWs to Manila because our OFWs also tested negative of the virus,” he said.
He added that once OFWs test positive for the virus, their specimen will be forwarded to Manila for re-examination for the new Covid-19 variant.
Bacolod City has a total of 5,725 cases of Covid-19, as of January 28. Of the number 5,413 patients already recovered, 130 active cases and 182 deaths.
On the same day, Bacolod had only two new cases of Covid-19 with no death.
Sorongon said most of the new Covid-19 cases were authorized persons outside residence, local stranded individuals, dialysis patients, and pregnant women, among others.
He said they are still encouraging and enjoining the people of Bacolod City not to be complacent.
Sorongon reminded the public to always observe minimum health protocols, such as wearing face masks and face shields, washing of hands and observance of physical distancing.
